Managing mindset in an era of global disruption and climate anxiety.

Fri, 31st January, 2025 from 9:30 AM, in London

We invite you to a morning with a long term, regular and frequent member of our community (and new moderator), Nick Mabey, to a session focused on helping us consider the mindset we need to approach the impending challenges of the future, particularly climate.

Nick describes what he is inviting us to as follows:

“As part of the ‘helping professions’ we are probably getting increasingly drawn into work that is connected with the climate crisis in all its forms.  And if we are not, we might be thinking that perhaps we’d like to be of more service in this area.  I’ve found myself travelling along both these paths and realised that the first job of work is my own mindset.  Following the well-worn psychotherapeutic mantra that ‘I am my first client/patient’ I’ve realised that I need to get my own mind in order before expecting to be able to help others.  But how to do that in the face of such a turbulent, all-embracing existential threat?  How can I be sure I have a mind fit to serve others?

“I can’t promise answers but I’ve got some tools and techniques that we can try out together to see where this takes us.  If you are grappling with your own experience of the disruptive times we live in while trying to serve others in similar states of distress, despair or denial then let’s work together in a fee, practical, experiential and hopefully enjoyable way and see what we might learn. ”

Nick is a deeply experienced consultant, coach, facilitator, teacher and mentor.   He brings this wonderful enthusiasm for living, learning and helping others to his work. He is also a trustee of three charities and a team leader of another. Personally he is a father, partner, runner, yogi, reader, writer, (“rubbish”) golfer and (“sad”) Southampton FC supporter.  I know him to be a wise friend and deeply committed to leaving a real legacy on the world.
