Moderation begins well before the Sadler Heath event. I enjoy the preparation stage, supporting the presenters to build on their initial idea, encouraging it to blossom and helping them to fit this into the ethos – this means that the presenters are at their own learning edge and willing to share responsibility for learning with attendees, who are all there of their own free will. During the event my role is to top and tail the event, essentially this means saying welcome and thank you. I also like to join in as a participant, keeping my invisible moderator hat on, out of sight in plain view.
